Villa Sabai Jai
Villa Sabai Jai is the ”resort” name of our three boutique villas, Eagle, Gecko and Turtle Villas. Sabai means ”laid back”, ”easy going”, ”peaceful feeling”. Sabai jai literally means ”well heart”, and this is the feeling we wish you to get when you visit our luxury pool villas. This the Thai’s use to express contentment, happiness or gratitude.
Villa Sabai Jai is situated on the southern end of the island, on a cape between two beautiful beaches, Tian Og and Sai Daeng. 10-15 minutes drive to the main villages on the island (Mae Haad and Sairee).
How it all started
The first time we (my wife, children and I) came to Thailand was 20 years ago. After this first trip we have visited the country at least once a year. Much has changed but the best is still there, the climate, the food and the friendly people. After having traveled around in almost every corner of the country for 15 years we started to become quite tired of staying in different hotels. For two years we were looking around in the areas we liked best to find our dream land where we could build our dream house.
We were on our way to Koh Lanta to look at a plot that we were interested in, luckily we went even beyond Koh Tao to have a look what land was availabe there. After only 6 hours on the island, we had found our dream plot with an amazing location 35 meters above the sea, and it was for sale! Good was also that the ground was perfect for the dream project that we had in our minds for all these years. A villa facing south treating us with both sunrises and sunsets. Our wish was to have 3 bedrooms in separate buildings so that one can live undisturbed but close to rest of the family or friends, a main house with kitchen/dining/sitting areas, a large free form swiming pool and a private access to the sea from the large sundeck.
After 2,5 years of planning and construction our dream project was finished and we could move in.
It feels great to share this amazing villa with others that have the same feelings about it as we do. We try to spend as much time as possible in the villa, but since we have had more bookings than we ever thought we have now almost finished two new pool villas on another cliff just 200 meters from Villa Sabai Jai.
As we mentioned we have been staying in many hotels around the country (and the world). Whenever you come to a new place you have to get to know the place and it takes time. Maybe you miss the best things because you didn´t know about them. That´s why we have prepared two binders, one about the villa and one about the island with redommendations of what to do, where to eat and what beaches to visit etc. So it will be easy for you to get a quick feeling about the island. We hope you find them useful!
Make your dreams come true! Bob
We care about the environment
The villas are build almost only with natural materials and have an energy-efficient building technology installed in order to avoid waste of natural resources.
For example the following:
- House building materials are concrete, building blocks, stones from the island, reused wood from old houses in northern Thailand and thatched roofs
- Only AA class electric house hold appliances
- Keycards in all houses, switches off the electricity automatically when taken out of the holder
- Low consuming water toilets
- Water tank for collecting rain water
- Low electricity consuming water heating (air heating pump) in Eagle Villa
- Solar panels on Eagle, Gecko and Turtle Villas
- LED lighting throughout Gecko and Turtle villas and halfway changed in Eagle Villa
- All wooden furniture made of old reused teak wood from northern Thailand
- Bulk dispensers for toiletries
- Recycling bins for cans, glass, paper, plastic and food waste
Since there is a lack of water and the electricity is produced in local generators on the island, we ask you to use the water and electricity carefully whilst your stay in the villa.
Don´t use more water than needed and ALWAYS switch off the AC when not needed and when leaving the house.
