– An Oasis of Sea and Tranquility
Sparkling blue-green waters, pristine beaches, and lush greenery; this is Koh Tao island. As one of Thailand’s best kept secrets, this small island nestled in the central gulf coast of Southern Thailand is a haven for anyone looking to lay low and relax.
Island Transportation Options for Everyone
There is a variety of ways to get around and explore the island. A paved road runs from North to South with smaller, often dirt, roads connecting throughout the stretch. Both ATV’s and motorbikes can be rented throughout Koh Tao and can be a fun way to get around on these roads, provided you are an experienced driver. If you are not comfortable driving yourself, Taxi services are available for a small fee. A more exciting way to explore this majestic island is to take a boat taxi or rent a kayak and travel from beach to beach. Footpaths are scattered throughout the island, so if you’re up for a nice hike, opt for the trails. Keep in mind that some are rocky and steep and should be taken with precaution.
The Unspoiled Beaches of Koh Tao
If you want to meet people, play beach games, and people watch head over to Sairee beach. This 1.7km strip of sand is the most built up area on the island and is the place to be at night if your wanting to party.
With its white sand, great views, spectacular sunsets, and relaxing setting Freedom Beach is an ideal place to hang a hammock and read a book.
Next to our Koh Tao resort, Sai Daeng beach offers a colorful landscape, crystal clear water, and incredibly soft white sand. This beach happens to be very close to Shark Island, which is one of the premiere diving and snorkel sites.
June Juea Beach
On the south west side of the island is June Juea Beach. It is somewhat difficult to access so many do not venture to this beautiful location. If you’re looking to escape it all, then take the path less travelled!
Scuba Diving and Snorkeling in Turquoise Waters
Koh Tao island is one of the best locations in South East Asia for scuba diving. Whether you have experience or want to get your feet wet for the first time, this is the place to do it. A variety of diving courses and packages with internationally qualified professional diving instructors can be arranged.. If you’re not ready to gear up and go below the water, stay on top and snorkel around in the bays of Koh Tao. Clownfish, stingrays, barracudas, parrot fish, and even sea turtles can be seen happily swimming about the sea.
Get Active on the Island
There is more to do than scuba diving and relaxing all day on the impeccable beaches of Koh Tao. Choose from yoga, Muay Thai, paintball, cliff diving, and even flying on a trapeze! Go for a fun day starting at The Fisheries museum on Sairee beach; although small, is worth checking out. Get yourself to Tanote Bay and hike up to the highest viewing point on the island, known as Two View. From here, walk down to Sairee beach or back down the way you came up and follow the signs to Ao Leuk Bay for a swim. Treat yourself to a challenging game of mini golf, bowling, or pool at Koh Tao Bowling and Mini Golf. Head to Hin Wong Bay for some exciting rock climbing and then move onto Rocky Bay for a cold drink and some snorkeling; watch out for the friendly black tipped sharks. After a long day of island exploration wind down with a relaxing massage; after all, you are in paradise.
With a variety of beaches to choose from, activities to do, and things to see; Koh Tao is not to be missed
